Let’s be honest, we don’t typically think of studying (or chores) as ‘fun’, especially when FOMO kicks in! But, it’s imperative to get focused, start studying and to crush your exams. Let’s look at 5 ways to get focused.

Focus Strategy 1: Clean Up!

As strange as it may sound, when your space is cluttered, you’re brain is cluttered! It’s almost as if they are linked together and create an atmosphere in which you simply cannot focus on one thing. You’re constantly scanning the room for something new. Take 20 minutes (yes, just 20 minutes) and clean up! Put away the clutter, straighten the papers and put laundry into the hamper. This quick cleanup will magically de-clutter your brain and help you focus on the tasks you need to be doing.

Focus Strategy 2: Clarify Your ‘Why’

‘Why’ you are doing something is a huge factor in setting yourself up for success. Be clear as to your ‘why’. If you want an “A” on an exam, your actions to achieve that goal will be very different than somebody who has a goal of getting a “C”. You’ll study more, prepare flashcards, attend a study group, etc.

Take a moment to define exactly what you want the end result to be and the tasks you’ll need to do in order to achieve that desired goal.

Focus Strategy 3: Unplug.

There are distractions everywhere, especially in the form of notifications that pop up constantly on your phone. When you’re setting up your space to study (or focus on another task) make it a part of your routine to put your phone on sleep mode. Don’t just silence it so that you’ll hear it buzzing. Zero distractions is the best way to go! The emails, notifications and text messages will all still be there when you are done studying.
